The iodine crystals get converted into gaseous state from solid state when they are heated. Gases have a property to fill a container completely, So the iodine vapour fills the container completely

Answer: This is because iodine was initially in solid state. When heat was given to it, it converted itself from the gaseous state to vapour state. Since in vapour state it follows all the property of a gas, gas acquire the shape of the container in which it is kept.
