When iodomethane react with KCN, gives ethanenitrile but if the same react with AgCN gives methyl isocyanide. Why?​

Answer:

Chloro methane reacts with KCN to form ethanenitrile as the main product whereas with AgCN, methyl isocyanide is the main product. it is because the cyano group(C=N) is thE AMBIDIENT NUCLEOPHILE. That means it has two sides through which the reaction can take place.
