‘When iron is heated with sulphur iron sulphide is formed’ this reaction is called as Combination reaction.

Explanation:

  • A combination reaction is one in which two or more substance react together to form a third substance which is the addition product of the two.
  • Here there is exchange of electrons between the two compounds. When solid iron ‘metal is heated’ with powder sulphur which is a non-metal iron sulphide is formed. Iron exhibits a variable valency of 2 and 3.
  • Here it loses two electrons, on the other ‘hand sulphur’ gains these two electrons. And hence FeS is formed. Fe + S ⟶ FeS
