When 1newton of force is applied on a body to displace it 1metre in the direction of applied force. The work done on the body is said to be 1 joule and joule the same is the SI unit of work.

w.d. is said to be one joule if a force of 1 Newton of force is applied on an object , displaces it with a distance of 1 m.

w.d. = Force × displacement (according to definition of w.d.)
=Fs(f=force & s=displacement)
=Nm (si unit of force = Newton & displacement= m) or joule.
or
si unit = joule
