Distance traveled is the total length of the path .
Displacement is the shortest distance possible between initial and final position.

Distance traveled is always , and can never be zero or negative.
Displacement can be positive or negative , or even zero.

Distance will be equal to the displacement , when a body travels along a straight path[in the same direction ]
