When is mid - term election held

Whenever the ruling government cease to possess majority and clearly loses confidence in the house (parliament or the state assembly), the governor or the president may invite the opposition to prove confidence in the house. If none can prove their majority then the governor or the president in consultation with  the election commission may decide for mid-term elections.
