Work done can also be positive or negative. When 0o <= θ < 90o, work done is positive as Cos θ is positive. Work done by a force is positive if the applied force has a component in the direction of the displacement. When a body is falling down, the force of gravitation is acting in the downward direction.

When the force and displacement are in same direction, work done will be positive.

Explanation:

The work done by a body is given by :

W=Fd\ cos\theta

Here,

F is force

d is displacement

\theta is the angle between force and displacement

If the force and displacement are in same direction. The angle between them will be 0 degrees. So, work done is F × d i.e. positive work.

Hence, when the force and displacement are in same direction, work done will be positive.
