Water is used to extinguish fire as it co0ls down the fire lower than it's ignition temperature.
Ignition temperature is the optimum temperature at which any substance starts burning.
The three main requirements for fire are :
(<>) Ignition temperature
(<>) Oxygen
(<>) source
If any of the three requirements donot meet, there is no fire caused.
Using water, we demolish the factor of ignition temperature.
