if the force has a component in the same direction as the displacement of the object the force is doing positive work....if the force has a component in the direction opposite to the displacement the force does negative work

Case 1:- When vectors are opposite in direction
Work done by force is negative when the displacement is just opposite to the force applied..
So both are vector quantities and both are opposite to each other. And therefore work done is negative because of opposite vectors...
