When lead nitrate reacts with hydrogen sulphide gas, the color of the precipitate so formed is?

The answer of this comes when we look at the reduction potential of the two reactions.

The reaction which has more positive reduction potential will be feasible. 

The reduction potential for reaction of Ag with H2O  is -0.80 eV

While that for the reaction of Ag with H2S is 0.69 eV

Thus reaction of Ag  with H2S is more feasible.

H2S + Pb(NO3)2 ----- 2 HNO3 + PbS (s) 
it is a precipitation reaction in which PbS will be formed which is a black insoluble compound .
