In the content of interference or diffraction, light is considered as electromagnetic wave. Ininterfere light which we wish to mix should be coherent with each other. when one light's trough is add to another light's Crest , they cancel each other and give zero amplitude or zero intensity at that point. then we can get darkness in a specifi region.
