Answer: These colors are often observed as light passes through a triangular prism. Upon passage through the prism, the white light is separated into its component colors - red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet. The separation of visible light into its different colors is known as dispersion.

Hope this will help you friend!!!

When light appears white it is made up of different colours just like the colours of the rainbow. The colours can be separated by shining light onto a prism.

Explanation:

  • The phenomenon of splitting of white light into its seven constituent colours when it passes  through a glass prism is called dispersion of white light.
  • Various colours that are seen are Violet,  Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange and Red. The sequence of colours remembers as VIBGYOR.
  • The band of seven colours is called the spectrum.
  • Component colours of light bends  at a different angle with respect to the incident angle. The violet light bends the least while Red bends the most.
  • The bending of light is according to wavelength. Red has the highest wavelength and Violet has the least wavelength.
  • Due to refraction property of electromagnetic wave, different wavelengths tend to have different speed and undergoes refraction and dispersion to result into spectrum of seven colours.
  • Rainbow is a natural phenomena which illustrates dispersion. It is the spectrum of sunlight in nature. It is formed due to the dispersion of sunlight  by the tiny water droplet, present in the atmosphere.
