Answer:
When light passes through a liquid medium, it is scattered if incident light has same frequency that of Scattered light it is called Rayleigh Scattering.
If incident light has different frequency that of scattered light its called Raman scattering.
In Raman scattering molecules have different vibrational energy levels. Atoms absorb incident light and reach virtual energy state and come back to a different energy level releasing a photon. This results in Raman Scattering.
Raman Scattering is used in quantitative and qualitative analysis of molecules.
