When magnesium is burned in oxygen, magnesium oxide is formed. According to law of conservation of mass, i.e total mass of reactants is equal to total mass of products satisfies the reaction : mass of MgO is equal to mass of both oxygen and magnesium, thus it is heavier as compared to the reactants.
