when magnesium is burnt in air a powdery ash X is formed .X on dissolving in water forms Y what is X and Y. What happens to the colour of red litums paper when it is dipped in Y. What conclusion do you get. about the nature of Y from its action on litmus paper​

X= magnesium oxide

Y= magnesium hydroxide

if magnesium hydroxide is used with red litmus , it turns blue in colour which shows a presence of base.
