Magnesium oxide (MgO). MgO + H2O –> Mg(OH)2 this is an exothermic reaction but it's a hydration not an acid-base or a redox one. When the magnesium metal burns it reacts with oxygen found in the air to form Magnesium Oxide. Once these are added to water, the oxide becomes hydroxide or oxide + water.
