When moist H2S reacts with halogens, the halogens are REDUCED.

- Let us take an example of chlorine reacting with H2S.

- The chemical reaction is given as:

Cl2 + H2S → 2 HCl + S

- In this reaction, the oxidation no of chlorine in Cl2 is 0 and the oxidation no of chlorine in HCl is -1.

- Since oxidation no of chlorine is decreasing, therefore, reduction of chlorine is taking place.

-  Similarly, the reduction of other halogens takes place.
