Substitution of one base with other base is commonly known as mutation. But when one purine is replaced by one pyrimidine or vice versa, this is known as transversion. There are many causes of this mutation i.e. it may occur spontaneously or may occur due to mutagens such as radiations or chemicals. It may cause diseases such as neoplasm, carcinoma, neoplastic and transformation of cells.
