When our elders tell us that today's environment is not what is used to be,what they mean by this statement.?

They means that today's environment I'd not like before environment.
As today the environment is suffering from pollution, dangerous gases, etc.. The environment is not suitable for human beings to live on. Before in earlier times the environment was not thus much polluted as now.
The pollution is increasing day by day.
The trees are disappearing, animals are going to extinction.
The human life today is very much complicated.
They meant this only by their words.
