The hydrogen atoms don't change theiroxidation state in the reaction, onlyoxygen changes. The two oxygenatoms in the reactant each have oxidation states of -I. One of these is reduced to oxidation state -II in water and the other is oxidized to oxidation state 0 in molecular oxygen.
