if a plant cell is put in a hypotonic solution that is a solution with higher concentration of water the plant cell will swell up as a cell will gain water by osmosis

if plant cell is put in a hypertonic solution that is a solution which have lower concentration of water meaning that is very concentrated solution the plant cell will shrink aur contraction of the contents of the cell away from the cell wall will take place because the cell will lose water through Osmosis this phenomenon is also known as plasmolysis
