The reaction is an oxidation reaction. A titration would be a good idea since there’s a distinct colour change. The equation for the reaction is:  3KMnO4 + C6H8O7 = 3 HMnO4 + C6H5K3O7  Citric acid also is a well known reducing agent.  Citric acid turns potassium permanganate from purple to colourless because it is a reducing agent. KMnO4 will oxidize citric acid to CO2 and H2O and itself will turn into almost colorless Mn(2+) (in acidic environment), or, into brown MnO2 precipitate.

sunita143: I've added for reaction with cytric acid that is H2C2O4

Hii There!!

⭕✔ When potassium permanganete reacts with citric acid, citric acid turns it from purple to colourless as it is a reducing agent.

⭕✔ KMnO4 is an oxidising agent.So, it will oxidize citric acid to CO2 and H2O.

⭕✔ Here is the chemical reaction taking place :-

3KMnO4 + C6H8O7 ----> 3HMnO4 +C6H65K3O7
