The President of India can use his discretionary power in following cases:-

  • He can appoint the prime minister when no single party get the majority in lok sabha.
  • In case of sudden death of prime minister. He appoint the prime minister as the party cannot elect his leader immediately.
  • When the vote of non - confidence motion have been passed against the ruling party and the lok sabha can be dissolved, in this situation president can use his discretionary power to dissolve the lok sabha or he can invite the another party to prove its majority .

Thank you :-)
