Percentage increase in price of rice = 25% (Given)

Expenditure affected after lowering consumption = 10% (Given)

Consumption of rice by the family = 40kg (Given)

Let the price of per kg of rice = 100

Therefore,

The expenditure of the family will be = Rs. 4000

Since, expenditure is increased by 10%, Thus -

10% 0f 4000 = 400

= 4000+400

= 4400

Increased price of rice = 100+25 = 125

New consumption = 4400/125

= 35.2

Therefore, the new consumption of family is 35.2 kg

The new consumption of family is 35.2 kg.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the price of per kg of rice be Rs. 100

Total consumption of rice = 40 kg

Total amount spent = 40\times 100=Rs.4000

Consumption expenditure is increased by 10%.

so, Now, total consumption expenditure is given by

\dfrac{10}{100}\times 4000+4000\\\\=400+4000\\\\=4400

Price is increased by 25%

So, New price would be

\dfrac{25}{100}\times 100+100\\\\=25+100\\\\=125

So, New consumption would be

\dfrac{4400}{125}=35.2\ kg

Hence, the new consumption of family is 35.2 kg.
