When punishment is given as a form of revenge ,it loses its purpose. With reference to the story’ The Man Who Knew Too Much ‘state your observations.

Private Quelch or Professor as he was popularly called had a lot of knowledge about everything that he loved showing off. As a result, he even corrected his seniors. Unfortunately, when he once did this with Corporal Turnbull, it was not taken well and the latter wanted to take revenge.

Citing that he was looking for such a person for an important placement in the army institute, Corporal Turnbull posted Professor for permanent cookhouse duties. However, Professor failed to learn his lesson. Even inside the kitchen, he started exhibiting his knowledge and finding fault with how the staff worked. Thus, when punishment is given with an intention of seeking revenge, it has no purpose.

The purpose of punishment is losses when it is given as the revenge because then it is not for the real purpose it's just for taking revenge for ourself. This is what happen in the story "the man who knew too much" .

Professor was too much for his knowledge which he have so he always try to find mistakes and correct in others but when once the professor corrected one of the senior Corporal Turnbull it makes the corporal full of hatred and so he desires to take revenge from the professor . As the result the Turnbull posted him to the cookhouse for performing the duties but the revenge don't goes well as the professor even find the mistakes among the  kitchen staff and started to correct the others there also.so the punishment loss the worth due to revenge .
