When quicklime is added to water ,the water becomes very hot . why ?

quicklime is acidic which is corrosive in nature and as u know when an acid is poured on a surface it corrodes the surface so when u put it in water it will get hot. but don't ever put this quicklime and water solution on ur hand or anywhere on ur body it can cause serious injuries!

It is also because the reaction performed is exothermic i. e. large amount of heat is produced. This application is used for white washing in homes.
