When R is divided by 7 remainder is 3 what is the remainder when 3R is divided by 7

EVALUATION

Let x be the quotient when R is divided by 7 remainder is 3

Then R = 7x + 3 - - - - - (1)

We have to find the remainder when 3R is divided by 7

Multiplying both sides by of Equation 1 by 3 we get

3R = 21x + 9

⇒ 3R = 7 ( 3x + 1 ) + 2

Clearly 7 ( 3x + 1 ) is divisible by 7

Now 2 < 7

Hence the required Remainder = 2
