Answer:

When an ovum is released from the ovary it contains 23 chromosomes in total, 1 being a sex chromoses, X.

Additional information:

An ovum is the female gamete of the human sexual reproduction. An ovum is formed in the ovary of the female reproductive system. A sperm is the male gamete. The ova in the ovary and sperms in the testis are produced by the process of meiosis.

Meiosis is a reproductive process found in sexually reproducing organisms that leads to formation of gametes which have half the number of normal chromosome count (haploid).

A gamete can be defined as an haploid cell that fuses with another haploid cell to form a diploid cell (process of fertilization). The haploid number in human beings is 23 making the diploid 46.

In both human male and female gametes (ovum or sperm), the chromosome count is 23. One of these chromosomes are sex chromosomes X or Y.

The sperm cell can carry either an X or  a Y sex chromosome, while a normal ovum carries a single X chromosome.

Having this in mind, the sperm cell is what determines the gender of the zygote (resulting foetus). If the sperm has an X chromosome,  it will combine with the X of the ovum and the zygote after fertilization will have XX chromosomes an this will be a female. If the sperm has a Y chromosome, after fertilization the zygote will have a XY combination and this is a male zygote.

The ovum will have it single X chromosome when released from the ovary upto that point where it fuses with a sperm and the resuting zygote will have either XY or XX.

Answer :- One X chromosome.

When released from ovary, human egg contains "one X chromosome".

Explanation :-

Full Question with options :-

When released from ovary human egg contains how many chromosome?

1) one Y chromosome

2) one X chromosome

3) two X chromosomes

4) XY chromosomes.

Answer :- One X chromosome.

  • Eggs are female gametes which are formed in the ovaries and released into the fallopian tubes.

  • Every month one matured egg is released from the ovaries which is called ovulation.

  • When the egg is released, it moves into the fallopian tubes where it stays for 24 hours.

  • Incase, if the egg is not fertilised with the sperm then the egg breaks down and shed as menstrual flow.

  • Each cell contains 23 pairs of chromosomes, for a total of 46.(23x2=46). Twenty two of these pairs are called autosomes which are same in both male and female.

  • The other one pair is sex chromosomes which is different in males and females.

  • Human egg has 22 autosomes and one chromosome, which is a haploid cell.
