When resistances R1 and R2 are connected in series, the current
through the circuit is 2 A. On the other hand, if R1 and R2 are
connected in parallel, the current through the circuit is 9 A. The
circuit is connected to a battery of 12 V. What are the values of
R1 and R2? ?

Answer:

R1 = 4 ohms & R2 = 2 ohms

Explanation:

I1 = 2 A

I2 = 9 A

V = 12 V

In series

V = I1 × R

So, Rt = V/I1

Rt = 12/2

Rt = 6

Rt = R1 + R2

= 4 + 2

Rt = 6

In parallel

V = I × R

Rt = V/I2

Rt = 12/9

Rt = 4/3

1/Rt = 1/R1 + 1/R2

= 1/4 + 1/2

1/Rt = 3/4

So, Rt = 4/3

Therefore, R1 = 4 & R2 = 2
