when sodium chloride is had added to a definite volume of water and stirred well a solution is formed but there is no increase in the level of water why

As salt is a soluble solute it gets dissolved in the water (solvent) which does not increase in the level of water.

we know  that there is intermolcular space in liquids . therefore when we mix salt in water it occupies the space which is taken by the intermolcular space present in liquids and so the level of water does not increases.
