if the reaction occur under normal condition, you will observe an explosion(Kind of) because it's highly exothermic!

Anonymous: And because sodium is highly reactive.
ayush43124: yes

Answer:

Sodium is a very reactive metal, as it is on the 2nd place in the reactivity series and is very soluble in water. After dropping it in cold water it will begin to dissolve and float around the vessel until completely dissolved.
