Answer:

it is NO2

NaNO2 + HCl  ----->  NaCl + HNO2

but the HNO2 "nitrous acid" is an unstable acid so it decomposes :

3HNO2 ----->  HNO3 + H2O + NO

as you can see in the previous reaction it decomposes forming HNO3

"Nitric acid" which is stable and H2O "Water" and NO "Nitrogen Oxide"

and the Nitrogen oxide is colorless but it reacts with the oxygen in the air forming NO2 "Nitrogen dioxide" as in the following equation :

2NO + O2 ------> 2NO2

and NO2 color is reddish brown .

extra info :-

if you are doing the reaction in a tube you might notice that the brown smokes are forming at the mouth of the tube but not inside of it even though there is air in their so the answer to that  question is simply cuz of insufficient oxygen gas hope you ace your exam friends thanks for reading till the end <3
