When solid baking soda was tested with dry litmus it did not show any colour change. What should be done to get the correct result?

It should be tested with sodium bicarbonate solution.

Baking soda is a base.

Bases turn Red litmus Blue.

If you try with solid baking soda it wont show any colour change. You should test with a proper solution of sodium bicarbonate(WET SOLUTION).

The solid baking soda does not change colour of dry litmus paper because in solid states ions are not free to move. And solution of baking soda in water leads to change in the colour of dry litmus paper because in water baking soda dissociate into ions and ions leads to change in colour of litmus paper.
