when some wheat dough was left in the open for a few days it started emitting a foul smell . state , why ?

When wheat dough is left in open, formation of fungus and reproduction of yeast present in it starts taking place. Growth of fungus gives it a foul smell and presence of this microorganism makes it unfit for consumption.
