ANSWER :  

Sowing of bottle gourd should be done directly in the field on both sides of 1.5 m wide beds,  keeping plant to plant distance of 45 cm.

In Punjab the two improved varieties of bottle gourd are  Punjab Barket and Punjab Komal.

**Bottle gourd belongs to the family of Cucurbitaceae. It is commonly known as Lauki. Its botanical name is Lagenaria siceraria.

Average yield is 40-45 t/ha. Approximately 3-4 kg of seeds are required for cultivating one hectare of land. January-March and September-December are the ideal seasons for growing bottle gourd. For the rain fed crop, sowing can be started after the receipt of first few showers during May-June.
