when sugar is dissolved in water there is no increase of volume which characteristics of matter is illustrated by the observation

Yaah , there is no increase in volume because :-
1. The space present between atom of water is occupied by the sugar .

→so , we can say there is little amount of intermolecular space between the liquids.

This shows that matter has tiny spaces between its particles. As sugar particle get inside the intermolecular spaces of water.
