when suger crystals dissolve in water , the level of water does not rise appreciably .why?

According to Archimedes principal the rise in water level is equal to the mass of water displaced but sugar crystals are very light and small to displace a lot of water therefore the level of water does not rise appreciably.

As the particles of sugar get into the spaces present in between of particles of water .
