Let principle sum be x
Tme = 3 years
Rate = 3% per annum
SI = $36
SI =  \frac{P*R*T}{100}
36 =  \frac{x*3*3}{100}
x = 36* \frac{100}{9}
x = 400
So the sum that would yield interest of $36 is $400.

The sum that would yield interest is $400.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the principle sum =  x

To find, sum would yield = ?

Time (T) = 3 years, Rate(R) = 3% per annum and

Simple Interest(SI) = $36

We know that,

Simple Interest(SI) =\dfrac{P\times R\times T}{100}

⇒  \dfrac{x\times 3\times 3}{100}=36

x=\dfrac{3600}{9} =400

The principle sum = $400

Amount = $400 + $36 =  $436

Hence, the sum that would yield interest is $400.
