When the air is heated it expands and becomes lighter and goes up.

When hit air rises ,cold air from the surrounding area rushes to fill in the gap.

We can take an example of how hot air balloon flies, it too have air and when the air is heated it goes up in the balloon and in the result it lifts up the balloon and the balloon flies.

Cold air is dense and goes down, that's why in winter seasons we get to see fog everywhere.
