When the Britishers came across the Indian education system they found the system not appropriate. They were interested in expanding territorial conquest and controlling revenues but they also felt that they had a cultural mission to civilize the native people, to make Indians good subjects. For this they were interested in improving the conditions of education in India. They wanted to create a class of ` brown-skinned’ educated Indians who would be English in their thoughts and tastes.
How do you think creating a class of Indians with an English taste would have helped British in ruling over India?
