NaCl + H2O ==== NaOH + Cl2 + H2


so the substance x is sodium chloride {NaCL] {brine}


the name of this process is chlor-alkali process due to formation of naoh [alkali} and chlorine as a major products.so to represent the formation of products ,it called chlor-alkali process.
