When we rationalise the denominator, the value remains equal to the number before multiplying the rationalising factor.

∴ 3/√5 = 3k/5

⇒ (3√5)/(√5 × √5) = 3k/5

(Do not multiply √5 in the RHS as √5 in the denominator and numerator in the LHS will make it as it is.)

⇒ 3√5/5 = 3k/5

⇒ 3k = 3√5

⇒ k = √5.

∴ The value of k is (√5).
