When the diamond merchant died, he left his 3 sons 1/3rd, 1/10th, and 1/12th of his diamonds respectively. The remaining 58 diamonds he left to his wife. How many diamonds did he have when he died?

Let us assume that he had x amount of diamonds.

So his first son gets 1/3x diamonds ,

his second son gets 1/10x diamonds,

his third son gets 1/12x diamonds ,

And his wife gets 58 diamonds

So according to the question,

1/3x+1/10x+1/12x+58=x,

x= 120

So he had 120 diamonds before he died.
