When the earth is revolving around the Sun, the gravitational work done by the Sun on the Earth for one complete is always:

a) Cannot be determined

b) Positive

c) Negative

d) Zero

Explanation :-

When earth is revolving around the sun, it is undergoing uniform circular motion .

And in this case, centripetal force is acting an at angle of 90° to the displacement .

Now we know that when force is acting at an angle to the displacement, then work done is given by :-

W = F × s × cos θ

Here, θ = 90° .

→ cos 90° = 0

So putting the values, we get :-

⇒ W = F × s × cos 90°

⇒ W = F × s × 0

W = 0 J
