Answer:

When the force applied on an object is doubled the pressure exerted on object is also doubled as it is directly proportional to the force.

Answer: If the force applied is doubled, the pressure exerting on the body gets doubled as well.

Explanation: The above statement can be proved by the following reasons:

  • By the formula of Pressure

Pressure = \frac{Force}{Area}

It is clear by the formula that force and pressure are directly proportional to each other which means the rate of variation between them will be equal. Whereas, area and pressure are inversely proportional which means if one will increase the other one will be decreased.

  • Examples

1. ) Balloon activity

Take a balloon and fill it with water. Now, apply a 2 N force on it. The balloon will not burst.

Now, apply a 5 N force on it. The balloon will burst.

This is because when we applied a force of 2 N, the pressure was not enough to burst the balloon but when the amount of the force increased, the pressure acting upon the balloon also increased resulting in the bursting of the balloon

2. ) Nail activity.

Take an iron nail and a wooden board. Try to insert the nail in the wooden board using a force of 8 N. The nail will penetrate the board a little.

Now, apply a force of 16 N. The penetration observed is more.

This is because when we increased the amount of the force applied on the nail, the pressure acting on the nail also increased which resulted in a greater penetrating distance.
