when the hcl is added to the zinc granules displacement reaction occurs in which zinc displaces the hydrogen to form zinc chloride.

in the whole processes hydrogen gas is liberated

when hcl reacts with zinc, ZnCl2 , zinc chloride is formed.

HCl + Zn --> H2 + ZnCl2 .

zinc displaces hydrogen from hcl. therefore it is a type of displacement reaction .
