the inter molecular force of solids is very strong . still they keep vibrating at their own positions due to what is known as KINETIC ENERGY. when we heat the solid as ice, the inter molecular force increases and so does their vibrations and the intermolecular spacing between them. henceforth, solid changes into liquids.
