When the rear wheel of the cycle is spun in the water, the water splashes over the wheel-

  • The splashing of water over a spinning wheel is caused due to inertia of direction.
  • When the wheel spins and the water starts to lose contact with the wheel, no external force is acting on it.
  • Due to this, the water tends not to change the direction it was going in initially (as it has directional inertia) and so, it travels in a direction tangential to that of the spinning wheel.
