Given:

When the same amount of current is passed through the solutions of CuSO4 and ZnSO4 then 0.7 and 0.716 gms of Cu and Zn get deposited on respective electrodes.

To find:

We have to find the equivalent weight of zinc.

Solution:

According to Faraday's second law, we know that-

Amount of Cu deposited/Amount of Zn deposited=Equivalent weight of Cu/equivalent weight of Zn.

Amount of Cu deposited=0.7 grams.

Amount of Zn deposited=0.716 grams.

The equivalent weight of Cu=63.5 grams.

The equivalent weight of Zn=x.

 \frac{0.7}{0.716} = \frac{63.5}{x} \\ x = 63.5 \times \frac{0.716}{0.7} \\ x = 64.95

The equivalent weight of Zn is 64.95 grams.
