Step-by-step explanation:

Let son's age be = x

Let father's age be = y

According to Case I

If x = y

Then x + y = 126

y + y = 126

2y = 126

y = 126 ÷ 2

y = 68

So father's age will be 68 years

According to Case II

If y = x

Then x+y = 38

x+x = 38

2x = 38

x = 19

So son's age will be 19 years.
